The Making Of Inside Out
Summary: This new movie from Pixar Animation Studios has incorporated several different
features, including walk cycle, puppet pin tool, and multiplane animation. In the clip I watched, the animators were working on how to make the characters walk smoothly and also showing the developing stages of the main characters/emotions.
Story: The story told is really about how a child is growing and the difficulties to growing up. The way the story is told is key. The animators showed this idea through making real life emotions who actually had emotions of their own. They created an entire world inside the child's mind. They integrated the obstacles the emotions are going through into a movie to give a better understanding of what is happening.
Best/Improvement: The entire movie as a whole was fantastic. What the animators did that was very well done was the concept and how they were able to tie every element they characters encountered back to the theme. It wasn't a movie about a bunch of different silly, ridiculous things happening to the main characters, it was about how the child was struggling through everyday life, while also showing how the emotions were dealing with the different situations thrown at them. What the animators could improve on is to give more background on supporting characters. The main characters were very well thought out, be that thoughtful for supporting characters also.
Design: In the movie, there was a scene where one of the emotions, Joy, was skating across the floor in sync with the child. Its was smooth and flawless, and the design style for that would have been challenging indeed. In another scene, Joy is waking up all the other emotions for the first day of school and she is twirling, jumping and moving at very fast speeds. For the animators to make that so silky is a masterpiece in itself.
Final Thoughts: This movie is spectacular. It is personally one of my favorite animation movies of all time. Its hilarious, heart-warming, and heart-wrenching all at the same time.
