The Making of Aladdin
Scope: The video talks about how they decided to draw the characters for the movie. They referenced how Arabic calligraphy has many sort of S-shaped curves, and incorporated this in their development of their characters. They also talk how even some of the very fine details of the movie help with introducing the audience to more important and volatile scenes in the movie.
Story: The story that was told during this short video was how the characters were established, the meaning and importance of each of the characters. The story was told through one on one interviews with the animators, a panel featuring the director, creators, and writer of Aladdin, and through several video clips referring back to the film. It was very interesting to see how the creators came up with the design of the characters, and their backstory.
Strengths/Improvements: The strengths of this project was how well the characters were developed, from the first sketches, to the final product. They had their own personalities, making the film even more relatable and fantastical to watch. An improvement that could have been made, although, could be that the creators could include more of the Arabian culture and religion during that period of time.
Conclusion: This short video of how Aladdin and the characters were made was quite interesting. It gave insight on how the characters were given their personality, and what references were looked back on to create these extraordinary characters.
